Data Recovery from Seagate 7200.12 hard disk drives

We have discovered the Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 hard disk drive has similar problems to the 7200.11 series.

7200.12 Models affected:

  • Seagate Barracuda 7200.12: ST31000528AS (1TB), ST3750528AS (750GB), ST3500418AS, ST3500410AS (both 500GB), ST3320418AS (320GB), ST3250318AS (250GB), ST3160318AS (160GB)

Unique failure symptoms:

  • The drive will power up normally (no ticking noises, errors etc) but will not be recognised by the computer

Cause: Firmware failure. Fortunately, we have worked out a fix that allows us to fully recover the data.
